Catechesis and Evangelization

Go out into the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Mk 16:15-16).

We make Christ’s mandate ” Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age” our own.  As Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, faithful to our Charism, with Mary as our model, we witness to the preferential love of Christ by bringing the truth of the Gospel to those we are called to minister to.  May these tools help you in the search for truth and in preaching the faith to all.

The second lesson concerns the place of catechesis in the Church’s pastoral programs. The more the Church, whether on the local or the universal level, gives catechesis priority over other works and undertakings the results of which would be more spectacular, the more she finds in catechesis a strengthening of her internal life as a community of believers and of her external activity as a missionary Church. As the 20th century draws to a close, the Church is bidden by God and by events – each of them a call from Him – to renew her trust in catechetical activity as a prime aspect of her mission. She is bidden to offer catechesis her best resources in people and energy, without sparing effort, toil or material means, in order to organize it better and to train qualified personnel. This is no mere human calculation; it is an attitude of faith. And an attitude of faith always has reference to the faithfulness of God, who never fails to respond. (Catechesi Tradendae n. 15)
