The Eucharist
We learn from the life of our Foundress Blessed Elisabetta Renzi that one of the pillars of her spirituality was the Eucharist, which is the sustenance on the journey towards union with God. Mother Elisabetta spend long hours in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. It was there that she understood how daily contact with the Eucharist brings a soul to radical transformation.
Central to our life as consecrated daughters of Elisabetta is Jesus in the Eucharist. Our Eucharistic Lord stands at the center of our community life. The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our daily life. We are renewed each day through intimate contact with the Eucharistic Jesus and the Word of truth. The Eucharist, sacrament of love, sign of unity, and bond of charity, constitutes the center of our community life. The Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows strive each day to be changed by the crucified Christ whom we meet in the Eucharist, thus “Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist, and the Eucharist, in turn, confirms our way of thinking.” (St. Irenaeus)
Our Foundress tells us that, the spirit of union with God throughout the day is possible through the classic food suggested by Jesus himself which is holy communion. After communion she used to pray, ” I carry Him, who carries me. . . . When a soul has worthily received the sacrament of the Eucharist, it swims in love; it is humble, kind, mortified, charitable, and modest, in harmony with all; it is capable of the greatest sacrificies.” As Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, we are shaped by the Eucharist and the Word of God. By nourishing ourselves with the Eucharist and the Word, we are truly in communion with the Church and we are able to give Him to our brothers and sisters.
When a soul has worthily received the sacrament of the Eucharist, it swims in love; it is humble, kind, mortified, charitable, and modest, in harmony with all; it is capable of the greatest sacrifices… it is not the same as it was before.
