Together in Mission
Blessed Elisabetta Renzi always told her sisters to trust in Divine Providence, and God has provided for us through the hard work of our sisters and the generosity of our benefactors and friends who have faithfully supported our mission and community needs.
In 1947, Bishop Charles P. Greco called the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows from Italy to teach African American children and youth and to begin a ministry in the Diocese of Alexandria/Shreveport for people with developmental disabilities. The sisters worked in these ministries wholeheartedly, living on very little and trusting in Divine Providence. Only in 1984 were they able to build a Mother House in Shreveport that would house a community, the novitiate community and would serve as a retirement home for the elderly sisters.
In 1997, a second house was built in Alexandria in close proximity to three community homes for people with developmental disabilities run by the sisters. The next year the sisters opened a center for inner city children in Shreveport to provide an after school program heavily focused on art and education. It was only through the goodness of benefactors that the sisters were able to expand and maintain their ministries. The sisters continue to rely on God’s providence through the generosity of others.
A Gift For Today
God continues to bless us each day with people who want to help us build the mystical body of Christ. The Sisters need you as they move forward in building the Kingdom of God through the works that our Foundress has entrusted to us. Your support will help provide the following: formation and education of the sisters, needs of the community, and ministries of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows.
How Can You Help
God continues to bless us with people who partner with us as we build up the mystical body of Christ. Your generous gift will support current and long-term needs of the community, help with the sister’s education, and care for the elderly sisters.
